One of the benefits of writing about TIME TRAVEL is the fact that the story is absurd from the get-go, so there is nothing stopping the writer from making the absurd seem normal. In the scenes about William and Lord John Grey and the other British officers, Arnold also appears as his alter ego John Andre, but nothing ever comes of his presence in the novel. The only living author I would not suggest this for is Thomas Pynchon whose brilliance and style is like fine lace, difficult to pick apart. I am sure that that will be further explored in the next book. But in the later books when she’s following a dozen or more characters, some of whom are in different time periods and on different continents, her stories lose their tension and elasticity.
